A message from Petra
“The most common issue I see in my sex therapy office is men wondering how to approach their partner for sex. They are sad for themselves — that they can’t explore the connection and pleasure that sex brings. But they are also sad for their partners. Too often I see a partner beside them who wants sex, but who doesn’t know how to navigate how and when. Both are hindered by communication issues, shame, fear, or what they feel they ‘should’ do.

It is so important that I have focused my research on this — creating assessments everyone can use to discover more about themselves and their partners. And I created this course to bring everyone these insights and self-directed support, so not just people who can afford sex therapy, but everyone can afford to know these important insights. To feel more connected to their partner. And to gain the benefits of a hot, sexy part of themselves.”

Petra Zebroff has been a champion of pleasure and positive sexuality within research and clinical practice for over three decades. After completing degrees in Psychology and Public Health, and a PhD in Human Sexuality, she launched the first online resource for women’s sexuality in 1999 — long before the conversation was mainstream.

Today Petra works at the intersection of research and real life — studying what actually gets in the way of intimacy, and what helps. Her work spans tens of thousands of research participants across publications on sexual pleasure, initiation, desire differences, and the role of connection in sexual satisfaction.

In her sex therapy practice, she sees the same issues repeatedly: men and their partners stuck in patterns around initiation, communication, and shame — patterns that are absolutely changeable with the right tools and insight. That gap between what is possible and what people are experiencing is what drove her to build The Art of Initiation.

Petra writes about sexuality, desire, and the erotic brain for Psychology Today in her column, The Erotic Brain. She has presented and delivered papers at conferences across North America and internationally, and is a TED Talk speaker.
